So excited for only two more weeks of school! The best part about this winter break is that we will have no homework to do during it. Also, we have new classes to look forward to, which is exciting for me. I am a fan of routine, but more a fan of change.

Going home for Thanksgiving was short. It was a preview of Christmas break though, I hope. I did not realize how much I love my house and my room and my hometown. Ann Arbor is great in summer, but I really do love it at Christmas time too. My family goes all out with decorating and the variety of decorations we display makes me laugh. Our stockings look like something from a Dr. Seuss book, and our nativity scene is Asian and wonderful. We only ever use a fake tree because we believe it is morally wrong to cut down a living tree purely for decoration when we are trying to conserve wildlife and stuff like that. I love that about my house. Traditional, yet down to earth. Guests at our Christmas party consist of Christians, Atheists, Jewish people, Indian people and a couple Muslim people. Every year we choose a different country to cook food from. This year I am hoping for Indian food because I do not eat a lot of it out here. Oh, how I love Christmas at home.

I am so stoked because I found out that there are only two finals that I need to take. The rest of my classes have other things I need to do, like a portfolio or final essay. One of my classes has a take home final which is all multiple choice. So nice! I feel like I am going to pay for this next semester though. I will probably have terribly hard finals in all of my classes and be really stressed out. I am hoping that by saying that I will jinx it and have hardly any finals again. We’ll see!

I wish we were able to keep pets in the dorms. I miss having a big fat cat sleep at the end of my bad and keep my feet warm. There are a couple cats around campus that I see a lot and I am always way too tempted to pick them up and take them back to my room. I know we are allowed to have fish and reptiles but they can get boring to me. My friend has a bearded dragon in her dorm and it is cool but does not do much. You can’t really play with it or anything so it is pointlessly high maintenance.

My roommate made a cake yesterday for her boyfriend’s birthday. It was awesome! I ate like three pieces and then felt a little sick. The cake had two layers, making it like 129823 feet tall. It was the best thing that happened all day. I had a piece before and after dinner and then some for breakfast. I ate all the leftover frosting too. Then I ate the plate it was on. Just kidding, but almost. Since I came to college I have eaten more sweets than I have real food. It is bad.

I feel like taking an art class. I have not done so since high school, but I enjoyed having one in my schedule. Art classes are strange because at first it may feel like a blow-off class, but it can turn out to be really intense. It can get hard when you have a deadline for your creativity. It is especially difficult if you are like me in that you get creative randomly, and cannot force it. I think sometimes having a deadline can ruin some works because you end up rushing and not liking the outcome as much as you would have had you taken your time. I still want to take one though because it is fun to share art with others and be in a class where you can forget about reality if you want.

I am itching to choose my classes for next semester. For some reason I have gotten stuck in basically the last group to register both times. It is really frustrating because I enjoy working hard and getting things accomplished, only if I enjoy the classes I have. I also do not want to get stuck with lame classes because with the fee increase, I really want to get my money’s worth from this school. The classes that I need also happen to be some of the more popular classes, like Communication and Botany. Well, looks like I may be crashing a few classes.

Wow! What a great Thanksgiving break! I feel like it went by too quickly though. Hopefully these next couple of weeks will fly by just as fast. I am getting a bit tired of the same routine and am in need of some change. By change, I mean things other than the transition from nice weather to cold and rainy. Michigan was even colder and more gloomy than here, but I still feel colder here. I think it may be because the air is so damp and you can feel the cold more. The air in Michigan is so dry that your skin cracks and chap stick goes like water to a parched camel.

I have never had school off for Veteran’s Day before. It is really nice, especially because it falls in the middle of the week. Sleeping in this morning was great. I forgot to switch my alarm off, which turned out to be very nice. It went off early this morning and immediately put me in a good mood because i could turn it off and fall back asleep instead of pressing snooze.

Having a holiday is nice but I thing people forget why we have it. Veteran’s Day is not just there for mattress sales. It is easy to let the real reason for the day slip your mind. Barbecues?

Halloween was so much fun. It reminded me of this thing that we do in my town in Michigan called the shopping cart race. It is awesome everyone wears crazy clothes and costumes and races shopping carts down this hill on main street at the end of punk week. Some people even work on their carts all year, welding random things to them to attain optimum speed. I love Ann Arbor and I am beginning to love Arcata. Even though I like it here, I am so unbelievably excited to go home for Thanksgiving. I miss my friends and family and my eighteen pound cat. Three weeks! Then I catch the plane home and hang out for a week before returning to school. Hope it lasts a long time!

I cannot count the days until Thanksgiving break fast enough. School has been so stressful lately, and this week I have four papers to write. It is only a matter of days no until I can get on that plane and go home. I feel like I will not be sleeping much, though. I can never really sleep on the plane, and once I get there I have so many people to catch up with! I miss all of my friends so much as well as my family. One thing I miss everyday is food. My parents are the kind of parents who believe in a home-cooked meal everyday. It spoiled me though, I swear. I do not think that spoiling me was their intention when they prepared a well-balanced meal for me every night. But it happened. They have made it so I have too high of standards to enjoy meal at the j. Maybe it will inspire me to start cooking for myself soon. Or maybe I will just email them a list of food that I think would taste great over Thanksgiving break.
